SUBJECT: Policy Change Prohibiting Piloting Aircraft On University Business
DATE: March 4, 1998

Effective immediately, the University has changed its policy regarding the use of aircraft on University business as found in the University Financial Policy 1202, Section 2.1.5. Employees are no longer allowed to pilot an aircraft while on University business. This change will result in significant insurance savings for the University.

Employees may hire a commercial charter service if they must fly to a remote location not serviced by an airline or to conduct research. The charter service must provide a professional pilot and have adequate insurance. Only the service's pilot may fly the plane. Approval from Risk Management's is required, prior to chartering an aircraft.
