The FAS Manual is now available online as of March 24, 1999.  As of this date, the old hardcopy manuals which you have are now outdated.
Please refer to the online version often, as it will be updated frequently.

Also, watch for another document, the FAS System Guide which will help you in navigating the FAS Screens.  This document will be available soon.
